Elena Morgan

My name is Elena Morgan, and I am a 2019 graduate from the College of Law. Just days after graduation, I packed up the contents of my Lakeview apartment and moved cross-country to Napa, California, where, after three long years of law school, I finally rejoined my husband. He moved from Chicago to Napa to pursue his dream of making wine while I stayed in Chicago to pursue mine-becoming a lawyer. As a new law student approaching 30, I was skeptical that I would ever connect with my younger peers. In retrospect, I realize that 30 is not that old-but it felt that way at the time! I was blown away to find such a welcoming and diverse community of classmates, faculty, administration and advisors. I made powerful and life-changing relationships through mentorship opportunities, community service initiatives and networking events. It quickly became clear that being a DePaul student was about more than just the degree, it was about a lifetime of connections and opportunities. DePauls alumni network is legendary for its support of current students and alumni, and I am so proud to be a part of that legacy. When I arrived in Napa, one of the first things I did was join the Bay Area Alumni Chapter. Despite 2020 being a year of social distancing, I have found meaningful bonds with my group. We share a deep love for DePaul and lots of nostalgia for Chicago. It is unlikely that, even without a pandemic, most of us could make it to Chicago for the annual Alumni & Family Weekend. So, it is extra special that this year we can participate through virtual programming. Now, more than ever, we need to stay connected to one another. So, thank you to the Alumni Relations team for putting together this entirely virtual event and for everything you do to keep our alumni community united. - Elena B.
