About

Matt received his undergraduate degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Kentucky in 2000 and his law degree from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 2003. During law school, he received the CALI award for highest grade in Contracts I and served as the President of the Trial Advocacy Board. He has been licensed to practice in Tennessee since 2004 and in Kentucky since 2003. Following law school, Matt practiced with a leading national firm representing banks and mortgage servicers in state and federal courts across Tennessee. He joined Hodges, Doughty & Carson in November 2020 after serving as in-house counsel for high-growth companies in Knoxville, including a local community bank. His in-house experience gives him a unique perspective from the clients point of view and he utilizes this background to help find creative and practical solutions for client needs. His practice includes real estate, banking (including loan workouts, participations, and regulatory compliance), creditor representation, and general business and commercial law, including corporate establishment and assisting clients in the purchase or sale of existing businesses. Matt is a native of Monroe County, Kentucky and spends time away from work on maintenance projects for his house in the historic Fairmont-Emoriland neighborhood of Knoxville.
