He was awarded his Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1990 and was admitted to practice with the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania that year. Working for a large private law firm for three years and as staff counsel for America's fifth largest property casualty carriers for seven years, His career has specialized in insurance defense. He has experience in complex litigation, municipal law, political subdivision and officer liability, liquor and premises liability, construction claims, environmental law, policy interpretation, coverage determinations, complex "trigger of coverage" issues and liability analyses. His practice also has included personal injury, products liability, commercial trucking and transportation, amusement park liability, and defamation and malicious prosecution. Additionally, Stephen has extensive experience in premium collection and third party subrogation cases ranging from damages caused by product defects and negligence to uninsured and underinsured motorist and worker's compensation. Stephen routinely serves as an arbitrator in insurance litigation and underinsured and uninsured actions. Stephen has comprehensive jury and non-jury trial experience in more than 20 counties in Pennsylvania and has tried more than 22 cases to verdict in the last eight years without a single plaintiff's victory. He also has handled numerous cases before Pennsylvania's Appellate Courts. He is a member of the Allegheny County Bar Association and the National Transportation Lawyers Association. He also serves as an arbitrator in the Allegheny County Arbitration System and for underinsured and uninsured motorist actions.
