Ryan D. Harris

Ryans practice focuses on real estate disputes, insurance coverage disputes, construction defect litigation, evictions, and condominium and HOA representation. He has also handled contract disputes, foreclosures, unemployment insurance coverage, employment discrimination, and wage claims. Currently, he represents hundreds of homeowners and condominium associations in Oregon and Washington, helping them with their transactional and litigation needs. His approach is to give clients practical advice about how to proceed and avoid traps and pitfalls. Staying current with the latest legal regulations affecting his clients is a crucial aspect of Ryans practice, especially if legislation relates to discriminatory restrictions, fair housing complaints, HOA misbehavior, or misuse of association funds. Ryan has successfully represented clients at all levels of the justice system, including proceedings and cases in Oregons Washington, Multnomah, Yamhill, and Clackamas counties, where he has argued numerous arbitrations and dispositive motions. Additionally, he successfully argued various cases at the Oregon Court of Appeals and Oregon Supreme Court with one appeal, Bank of New Your Mellon v. Sulejmanagic (2021) setting a crucial precedent for the priority of condominium association assessment liens. Embedding himself into the community is critical from Ryans perspective. He previously served as the President of the Oregon Chapter of Community Association Institute, a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating volunteer board members and the vendors servicing them as well as chaired the Chapters membership committee and as a director on the Chapters board. He has also conducted training seminars presenting legal topics ranging from association voting, enforcement, insurance, governing document interpretation, and construction defect litigation. Outside of work, Ryan is passionate about spending time with his wife Leigh and their four children, going to soccer games, and, when his kids were younger, preparing them for Oregons Battle of the Books competition.
