THOMAS J. CHAPMAN, ESQ. BIO Thomas J. Chapman is an owner and managing partner at Next Gen Injury Law where he provides legal representation to those injured due to nursing home neglect, assisted living facility injuries, and medical malpractice. In helping injured victims, I will personally oversee each case that is brought to the firm. Taking on a case is a personal commitment to that client: this means reviewing the most important medical records, speaking with expert doctors, reviewing medical journals, coordinating inspections of facilities, exchanging countless documents with other lawyers, and presenting the case in front of a judge and jury. I try and provide my clients with a level of service I would want: a lawyer who grasps the facts and the legal issues but also figures out why negligence occurred. In my experience, what separates a good lawyer from a great lawyer is someone who willing to uncover why negligence happens, not simply understanding how, where, and what happened - those things are the bare minimum and the bare minimum is not enough. FOUR QUICK QUESTIONS ABOUT TOM: What is your approach to working with a new client? A: It is important to be upfront with new clients about their potential case. If I dont see a case that I want to pursue, Id rather I tell them honestly and quickly so that they can search for a lawyer who might be willing to take it on for them. Due to the short time in Florida to pursue cases, its best for me to tell clients my thoughts as soon as I can. Clients generally appreciate the honesty even if its not what they were hoping to hear, which happens a lot since we are selective on the cases I take. What changes would you like to see in the personal injury field? A: Lawyers in the personal injury field have an obligation to maintain the integrity of this profession. Advertisements that focus solely on money, rather than our clients, miss the mark and Id like to see some changes within that area. What do you do in your spare time for fun? A: My wife and I enjoy spending time with our pets at home and getting to travel abroad when we get the opportunity. We recently went to Thailand and would love to explore other places. What do you enjoy about being a lawyer? A: My interactions with my clients. Ive had the privilege of representing people from all walks of life: a holocaust survivor, teachers, police officers, doctors, boat mechanics, and individuals unable to work. Everybody has a unique story to offer which gives me a new perspective for my own life.
