J. Cooney

James R. Cooney is a partner and co-founder of the Cooney Law Offices. James conducts a general civil practice with a concentration on business litigation. James has broad experience in many types of civil cases, including construction litigation, real estate litigation, partnership disputes and cases involving corporate governance. James has experience with Orphans Court litigation including will contests and trust disputes. The bulk of James litigation practice involves contract disputes, but James has also successfully litigated tort cases involving fraud, securities fraud and legal malpractice. In his 42 years of practice, James has tried many cases to verdict in both state court and federal court. James has successfully handled appeals before the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, the Commonwealth Court, the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. James has deep experience in arbitrating issues before the American Arbitration Association. James also handles adversary proceedings in bankruptcy court involving fraudulent conveyances, preferences, and similar issues. James graduated cum laude from Gannon College in 1977 with a B. A. in English. James graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1980. James is a member of the Allegheny County Bar Association.
