Bernard Jessica Marie

Jessica M. Bernard has represented education clients for over thirteen (13) years, and oversees the firms litigation department. Jessica represents Districts in lawsuits asserting claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, breach of contract, civil rights, wage and hour claims and other employment and student-related claims. She represents Districts in claims filed in state and federal court, as well as claims filed before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and state civil rights agencies. Jessica also represents clients in front of appellate courts and, in recent years, obtained favorable judgments following oral argument in front of the Missouri Court of Appeals, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Kansas Court of Appeals. In addition to her litigation work, Jessica frequently advises and supports Districts regarding general counsel matters such as pre-litigation employment and student matters, including consultation regarding the proper handling of disciplinary matters, hiring practices, leave usage, wage and hour practices, investigations, student discipline, and claims of sexual misconduct. She is committed to providing guidance at the earliest possible stage, and utilizes a hands-on approach when developing proper policies that are not only legally complaint, but also tailored to each specific Districts needs.
