About
Jordan Cohen Biography Jordan S. Cohen is a partner in Wicker Smiths Fort Lauderdale office. He is a cum laude graduate of Tulane University (Phi Beta Kappa), Duke University School of Law, and the Geneva Institute in Transnational Law, and joined the firm in 2003, after completing two years as a Judicial Law Clerk to Florida Fourth District Court of Appeal Chief Judge Mark E. Polen. Jordans impressive background and international education make him uniquely suited for complex commercial litigation in state and federal courts, and he has focused on these types of matters for over twenty years. As a young lawyer, he was fortunate to be mentored by former Managing Partner Dennis M. OHara. Armed with his own sharp intellect and Dennys client service training, Jordan has carved a niche for himself representing clients in all manner of complex commercial and class action litigation matters. Jordan regularly works with clients around the globe, including direct client relationships in Canada, Brazil, Switzerland, Germany, and Israel. In addition to his personal s, he regularly represents the firms general liability clients in commercial matters that affect their business on a larger scale, such as intellectual property, trademark and copyright infringement, professional liability (with an emphasis on defending lawyers, accountants, engineers and construction professionals), Lanham Act violations, civil RICO and unfair trade practices. A well-known litigator, he also frequently has outside work referred to him by colleagues from both the defense and plaintiffs bar. Jordan rarely says no to a case, and regularly takes on new subject areas so he can serve his clients in whatever capacity they require. His mental adaptability and capacity to learn quickly has afforded him the opportunity to work on a variety of interesting matters. Some of his recent engagements involve public trust violations / insider embezzlement; former U. S. military service members claiming long-term effects from medications taken in connection with deployments; non-domestication of a Brazilian judgment involving stolen lumber; unfair competition and intellectual property claims on behalf of a GLP-1 drug manufacturer; and administrative rate setting for harbor pilots in Floridas deep water ports. Jordan has acted as lead counsel in numerous reported decisions, including seminal cases on class certification, medical device preemption, and Floridas Uniform Foreign Judgment Act. Jordan currently serves as lead counsel on a high profile defamation action, and played an instrumental role in obtaining the reversal of the trial courts order allowing punitive damages to proceed, see Federal Insurance Co. v Perlmutters, 376 So. 3d 24 (Fla. 4th DCA 2023)(pending before Florida Supreme Court). Jordan is also experienced in the defense of cases involving environmental and emissions issues, products liability (with an emphasis on pharmaceutical and medical device liability), regulatory compliance, employment law, and commercial landlord/tenant disputes. He has been counsel of record in over 75 class action lawsuits, and serves as national counsel for the countrys largest manufacturer of automatic doors. Jordan is admitted to practice before all courts in the state of Florida, and is admitted pro hac vice in three other states.
