She graduated summa cum laude from Virginia Wesleyan College and went on to earn her Masters degree from George Mason University, focusing on risk and health communication. Beths research, which explored the experiences of families managing a parents cancer diagnosis, was published in both peer-reviewed academic journals and textbooks. Driven by a desire to make a direct impact on families, Beth pursued a law degree at George Mason School of Law. During law school, she gained courtroom experience as a summer intern for the San Diego Public Defender and spent two years working at a Washington, D. C. law firm specializing in special education law and special needs trusts for children. After law school, Beth relocated to San Diego, California, where she spent 14 years at Vaage Law.
