Paul Sternberg

Director, Spectrum Brazil Luiz Felipa Maia is Director of Spectrum Brazil, a specialty group of Spectrum Gaming Group designed to harness Spectrums global experience to help stakeholders advance gaming policy in the largest Latin American country and one of the worlds most important emerging gaming markets. Maia has been the most prominent gaming lawyer in Brazil for the past decade. Maia has advised private-sector clients on regulatory issues in Brazil and has engaged in advocacy initiatives with the legislative and executive powers that successfully influenced the developments of the Brazilian regulatory framework on sports betting, lottery, and other gambling modalities. Maia has been recognized as Lawyer of the Year in Brazil for Gaming in 2019, 2020 and 2021 by Corporate INTL and by Global Legal Experts, besides being awarded the Corporate Livewire Excellence Gaming Awards 2016 and being recognized as one the Top 100 lawyers in Brazil by Lawyer Monthly in 2018. Maia is a member of the International Association of Gaming Advisors, a General Member of International Masters of Gaming Law, the author of the Brazilian chapter of the five editions of Gambling Law Review, the Lexology Getting The Deal Through Gaming 2021 and the Chambers Global Practice Guide on Gaming Law, and the Peer Reviewer for Gambling Compliance in Brazil. Maia has a J. D. degree from the University of São Paulo, specializing in business law with a focus on contracts from Getúlio Vargas Foundation, and a Masters degree in Law from Federal University of Pernambuco. He is also an experienced negotiator and mediator, certified by the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School.
