John P. Guinan

Mr. Guinan is a partner at Levy Konigsberg LLP where he represents clients in complex toxic tort litigation. Mr. Guinans practice includes clients with asbestos related diseases, including mesothelioma. He has spent his entire career working on behalf of the rights of mesothelioma victims who have been needlessly harmed by the conduct of various tortfeasors. Mr. Guinan has been instrumental in helping his clients recover substantial awards in cutting-edge verdicts in mesothelioma litigation. Mr. Guinan was an associate at Paul Hanley & Harley, a plaintiffs toxic tort form in California before joining Levy Konigsberg. At his previous firm, Mr. Guinan also represented clients with mesothelioma who were exposed to asbestos years or decades earlier largely in the course of their employment. A large part of Mr. Guinans work focuses on settlement negotiations. With over 20 years of experience in asbestos litigation, Mr. Guinan analyzes each case individually to determine whether the best course of action is going to trial or settling outside of court. Mr. Guinan represented a New Jersey resident who was diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma, a form of cancer that targets the abdomen lining and has no known cure. The jury awarded the plaintiff compensation in the amount of $7.5 million for pain, suffering and loss of consortium caused by mesothelioma, which she contracted second-hand after years of laundering her husbands clothing containing asbestos fibers. The successful outcome for Mr. Guinans clients for damages resulting from second-hand exposure is another important victory for plaintiffs who seek compensation for injuries that did not occur in the workplace. Mr. Guinan attended St. Josephs University and graduated in 1993. He received his J. D. from Widener University School of Law in 1996. As a law student, Mr. Guinan had a special interest in environmental law. Following graduation, he was a staff attorney and lobbyist for the Public Interest Research Group, a non-profit consumer and environmental advocacy organization.
