He is a native of Indianapolis, Indiana, graduating from Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory High School. Matt holds a B. S. degree from the University of Wyoming and obtained his J. D. from Indiana University School of Law, Indianapolis. While in law school, Matt clerked for Judge Patricia J. Gifford, Marion Superior Court. After being admitted to practice law, in addition to his private practice, Matt served as the Assistant Attorney for the Indiana State Senate Majority. Matt is admitted to practice in Indiana and U. S. District Court, Southern and Northern Districts of Indiana, U. S. Tax Court and the U. S. Court of Claims. Matt has served as Vice President of the Indianapolis Bar Association, as a Director on the Indianapolis Bar Foundation and been named a Distinguished Fellow by the Indianapolis Bar Foundation. Matt has also served as an officer and director of the One Hundred Club which raises funds for police and fireman injured in the line of duty, is a member of the Police Motorcycle Drill Team, Inc., which raises funds for operation of the Indianapolis Motorcycle Police Drill Teams appearances at parades, childrens hospitals, nursing homes, and other events both locally and nationally, and a member of the Heroes Club which funds a life insurance policy for the surviving family of any police or firefighter who loses their life in the line of duty and raises money for special safety equipment and training Matts memberships include: Indiana State Bar Association-Business Law Section; Land Use and Zoning Section Indianapolis Bar Association-Land Use Section
