Katie Hardersen King e-mail Katie Hardersen King is one of the partners at Wake Family Law Group. She is a board-certified family law specialist who works with clients in matters involving North Carolina family law litigation, mediation, and negotiations. Katie is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. She has earned an AV-Preeminent rating for professional excellence by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest ranking available from a lawyers peers. Katie is certified as a Family Financial Mediator by the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission. She was certified as a specialist in family law by the North Carolina State Bar Board of Legal Specialization in 2007 and has been certified as a Parenting Coordinator in high conflict custody matters since 2008. Katie received her J. D. from Campbell University, Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law in 2002. While in law school, Katie was the Editor-in-Chief of the Campbell Law Observer. Prior to law school, Katie received her B. A., cum laude, in English and Political Studies from Meredith College in 1999. She was admitted to the North Carolina State Bar in 2002. Katie is a Past Chair of the Family Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association (NCBA), a group with membership of over 1400 family law attorneys from across the state. She previously served terms as a Council Member and Secretary for the Section. She currently serves on the Sections Adoption and Modern Family Committees. Katie is a member of the Wake County Bar Association and has previously served on the Board of Directors. She is the Immediate Past Chair of the Tenth Judicial Districts Grievance Committee, which investigates complaints involving lawyers ethical conduct, and she is currently an appointed member of the Disciplinary Hearing Commission (DHC), an independent tribunal that hears all contested disciplinary cases against attorneys brought by the North Carolina State Bar. Katie is also an ally attorney member of the LGBT Family Law Institute, a group of family law practitioners from across the country who are experienced in representing members of the LGBTQ+ community. Katie is actively involved in the community. She previously served on the Board of Directors for Wake County Smart Start, a non-profit organization which promotes, supports, and advocates for the needs of young children living in Wake County. Katie is also a member of Raleigh Professional Womens Forum (RPWF) where she previously served as a board member. Additionally, she serves as the family law liaison for HOPE Court, a voluntary, federal drug treatment court for post-conviction individuals who currently suffer from or have a history of substance abuse and/or addiction. Katie and her family also foster animals for a local rescue organization (ask her to see a picture of her current fosters!). She was one of the chapter editors for the publications, North Carolina Family Law Case Book with Critical Cases and North Carolina Family Law Marital Claims Deskbook (fourth edition and fifth edition). Katie has been selected for inclusion as a Super Lawyer in Family Law by the publication North Carolina Super Lawyers each year since 2020 and was included as a Rising Star in Family Law each year from 2012-2016 (until she aged out of the category). She has also been included in Business North Carolina magazines Legal Elite many times, including mostly recently for 2025. Katie is a frequent speaker across the state on family law and ethics issues.
