Prior to starting Brown Legal PLLC, he spent nearly eight years as an Assistant State Attorney for the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit in Fort Lauderdale, Broward County, Florida. While there, he accumulated a wealth of trial and litigation experience. During his tenure as an Assistant State Attorney, Jared tried approximately 60 jury trials covering misdemeanors to life felonies, like Murder. He litigated cases with forensic chemists, DNA experts, fingerprint analysts, accident reconstruction experts, crime scene processors, weapons experts, canine handlers and narcotics experts. He argued hundreds of motions regarding searches and seizures, Fifth Amendment rights, Due Process rights, violations of probation, motions to dismiss, hearsay objections, entrapment challenges, informant disclosure, requests for bond, coconspirator statements and post-conviction relief. While at the State Attorneys Office, Jared handled both advisory and prosecutorial roles. As a member of the Drug Trafficking Unit, and later as a Felony Trial Unit supervisor, he handled complex criminal investigations involving significant controlled substances offenses, DUI Manslaughters, traffic fatalities and serious felony offenses. Prior to making arrests, law enforcement consulted with him to best shape the active investigation into winning prosecutions. Besides advising police, he filed charges, reviewed search warrants and subpoenas, handled high profile cases by special assignment, prosecuted cases in neighboring counties when they faced conflicts of interest, advised prosecutors on legal issues and trained junior attorneys. Jared spent his last year as a prosecutor handling violent crimes as a member of the Ten Twenty Life Unit. There he prosecuted shootings, Attempted Murders and Murders. After leaving the State Attorneys Office, Jared spent approximately the next two years primarily honing his craft as a civil litigator. He worked at a boutique firm specializing in False Claims Act litigation, health care related concerns, commercial litigation and federal criminal defense. Then he joined a growing practice actively representing members of the health care community with their litigation needs. Jared left that venture to start Brown Legal PLLC. Besides handling trial work, Jared specializes in post-conviction matters. He argued before the Florida Supreme Court challenging a clients conviction for Murder. In response to the litigation, the Florida Supreme Court recommended changes to the Rules of Criminal Procedure to provide greater opportunity for defendants to fight convictions. He has filed appeals in federal court before the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Although Jared has mostly defended people accused of felonies in state and federal court, he has challenged drivers license suspensions too. No matter is too big or small for him. Jared graduated early with Honors from the University of Pennsylvania, where he obtained a B. A. in Economics. He then graduated with Honors from the University of Miami, School of Law. While at the University of Miami, he belonged to the Moot Court Board, Honor Council and Order of the Barristers. He taught a course in Advanced Moot Court, received the highest grade in multiple courses including Legal Research and Writing, Appellate Law, and Federal Criminal Practice and Procedure, and earned honors in both pretrial and trial advocacy courses.
