Prior to law school, Marvin worked as a petroleum engineer for two major oil companies as a drilling engineer and production engineer. Marvin is licensed to practice before all Texas state courts, the United States Supreme Court, the United States Courts of Appeals for the First, Fifth District of Columbia, and Federal Circuits, and the United States District Courts for the Southern, Eastern, Northern and Western Districts of Texas. Marvin has argued over 25 appeals before various state appellate courts and before the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fifth and Federal Circuit. In 2009, he was named a Super Lawyer in Texas Monthly Super Lawyers. Following law school, Marvin worked as a Briefing Attorney for Justice Joe L. Draughn on the Fourteenth Court of Appeals. Prior to law school. Marvin worked in the oil and gas industry as an engineer in a variety of disciplines and assignments. From 1981 to 1985, Marvin worked for Pennzoil Exploration & Production Company as a drilling engineer and production engineer. He supervised drilling operations offshore Gulf of Mexico on platforms and jack-ups as Company Man for development and wildcat wells. Marvin was also in charge of completion and work-over operations on existing production platforms. He assisted with design of drilling and completion programs for offshore wells. His production engineering experience included reserves calculations, budgeting, electric log analysis, transient pressure tests, and work-over recommendations. From 1985 to 1987, Marvin worked for Amoco International as a drilling engineer. He supervised land drilling operations on exploratory well in Madagascar and development drilling in the United Arab Emirates. He also supervised and monitored offshore drilling on exploratory wells offshore Morocco and Australia.
