David M. Johnson is a former Sixth Judicial District judge for St. Louis County, Minnesota, appointed in 2006 and serving until 2020. He earned a B.A. from the University of Minnesota in 1983 and a J.D. from Notre Dame Law School in 1993. Prior to his judgeship, Johnson served as an assistant county attorney for both St. Louis and Hennepin counties and as a prosecutor in the U.S. Marine Corps. A retired U.S. Marine Corps colonel, he served 27 years, including active duty during the 9/11 attacks and a deployment to Afghanistan. His distinguished military career earned him the Bronze Star, two Meritorious Service Medals, two Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medals, a Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, an Afghanistan Service Medal, and an Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
