Hon. James C. Tormey

James C. Tormey III was a distinguished New York jurist who served as the District Administrative Judge for the 5th Judicial District from 2000 until his passing in 2019. A graduate of the State University of New York College at Cortland (B.A., 1972) and Syracuse University School of Law (J.D., 1976), Tormey began his career as an Onondaga County legislator in 1977. He practiced law with the Robert A. Schuh Law Office and later as a partner at Williams, Micale & Wells. In 1987 he was elected to the Syracuse City Court, and in 1995 he was appointed to the Onondaga County Supreme Court, where he served until 2019. His tenure included re-election in 2010 and leadership as Administrative Judge of the 5th Judicial District. Tormey's career was marked by his dedication to the administration of justice in Central New York.
