He was appointed by former Governor <a href="/Charlie_Crist" title="Charlie Crist">Charlie Crist</a> on <a href="/C2010#September" class="mw-redirect" title="C2010">Sept. 14, 2010</a>. He replaced retired Judge <a href="/Edward_A._Garrison" title="Edward A. Garrison">Edward A. Garrison</a>. <p>Martz, a former law enforcement officer, began his legal career as an assistant state attorney in Palm Beach. He worked in that capacity from 1995 to 1996 and then from 1997 to 2006. From 1996 to 1997, he was a managing partner of <i>Martz-Curie, PA</i>. In 2006, he became a judge of the <a href="/Palm_Beach_County_Court,_Florida" title="Palm Beach County Court, Florida">Palm Beach County Court</a>, where he served until his elevation to the circuit court in 2010.<sup id="cite_ref-pr_1-2" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-pr-1">[1]</a></sup>
