About
Donald J. Ayoob is a distinguished judge on the San Mateo County Superior Court, appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in December 2010 and re-elected unopposed in 2012. He served the court until his term expired in January 2019. Prior to his judgeship, Ayoob had a long career in public defense, serving as Deputy Public Defender in Orange County (1982-1987), Deputy Public Defender in the Office of the State Public Defender (1988-2002), and Chief Assistant Public Defender (2002-2010). He has also been an adjunct assistant professor of law at Hastings College of Law since 1993. Ayoob earned his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of Law.
