Hon. Robert Russell

Robert Lee Russell was a U.S. circuit judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and previously served as a U.S. district judge for the Northern District of Georgia. He was born in Winder, Georgia, and educated in law by reading law in his father's office. Russell practiced law in Atlanta and Winder before his judicial appointments. He was nominated by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to the U.S. District Court in 1940 and later by President Harry S. Truman to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in 1949. He served as the Chief Judge of the Superior Court in the Atlantic Judicial Circuit, covering Long County and McIntosh County, based in McIntosh County. His experience includes service at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Russell's education includes reading law in 1920. He has achieved notable legal positions and has been recognized for his contributions to judicial service.
