<p><b>Manuel J. Mendez</b> is a judge for the 1st Department of the New York Supreme Court Appellate Division. He assumed office in 2020. His current term ends on December 31, 2025.</p><p>Mendez (<a href="https://ballotpedia.org/Democratic_Party">Democratic Party</a>) is also a judge of the <a href="https://ballotpedia.org/New_York_Supreme_Court_1st_Judicial_District">New York Supreme Court 1st Judicial District</a>. His current term ends on January 1, 2027.</p>
<p>Mendez was previously a judge of the <a href="/New_York_City_Civil_Court" title="New York City Civil Court">New York City Civil Court</a>. He was elected to this court in <a href="/C2004" class="mw-redirect" title="C2004">2004</a>.<sup id="cite_ref-bio_1-0" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-bio-1">[1]</a></sup><sup id="cite_ref-2" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-2">[2]</a></sup>

<h2><span class="mw-headline" id="Education">Education</span></h2>
<p>Mendez received his B.S. degree from the Fordham University College of Business Administration in 1983 and his <a href="/J.D." class="mw-redirect" title="J.D.">J.D.</a> degree from the Universidad Central Del Este School of Law in 1987. He also attended the Fordham Law School Foreign Lawyers Program in 1989.<sup id="cite_ref-bio_1-1" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-bio-1">[1]</a></sup>
</p>
<h2><span class="mw-headline" id="Career">Career</span></h2>
<p>Mendez began his career in 1990, working in the Legal Aid Society's Criminal Defense Division. In 1993, he helped found the personal injury and criminal defense practice of <i>Kwasnik &amp; Mendez, Esqs.</i> He then worked under the title <i>Law Office of Manuel J. Mendez P.C.</i> from 1999 through 2003. In 2004, he was elected to the <a href="/New_York_City_Civil_Court" title="New York City Civil Court">New York City Civil Court</a>.<sup id="cite_ref-bio_1-2" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-bio-1">[1]</a></sup>
</p>
