Hon. Donald Abar

Donald Abar is a judge serving the Oregon 3rd Judicial District in Marion County since 2012. He was elected on May 15, 2012, defeating J. Channing Bennett and securing over 50% of the vote in the primary. Prior to his judgeship, Abar served as a Deputy District Attorney from 1985 to 2012 and worked as a Trial Team Leader in Marion County. His legal career began after earning a J.D. from the University of Oregon, following advanced degrees in criminal justice from Washington State University, the University of North Dakota, and Minot State College. Abar also holds a bachelor’s degree from Willamette University Law and a bachelor’s degree from Willamette College of Law. He has experience in family business operations and security work at Yellowstone National Park. Licensed to practice law in Oregon, Abar has contributed to the state’s judicial system through his long tenure and election victory.
