He was appointed by Governor <a href="/Jay_Nixon" title="Jay Nixon">Jay Nixon</a> (D) on October 4, 2016, to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge <a href="/Robert_S._Cohen" title="Robert S. Cohen">Robert S. Cohen</a>.<sup id="cite_ref-appoint_1-0" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-appoint-1">[1]</a></sup>
</p>
<h2><span class="mw-headline" id="Biography">Biography</span></h2>
<p>May received a bachelor's degree from Harris-Stowe State University and a <a href="/J.D." class="mw-redirect" title="J.D.">J.D.</a> from Saint Louis University. He began working as an attorney in the <a href="/St._Louis,_Missouri" title="St. Louis, Missouri">St. Louis</a> area in 1990. His professional experience also includes serving as the regional director of the Missouri Governor’s Office and the Missouri Department of Labor. May was a member of the Missouri Development Finance Board from 2009 to 2010 and co-chair of the St. Louis County Council Reapportionment Commission in 2002. From 1993 to 2001, May was a member of the <a href="/Missouri_House_of_Representatives" title="Missouri House of Representatives">Missouri House of Representatives</a>.<sup id="cite_ref-appoint_1-1" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-appoint-1">[1]</a></sup>
