Prior to her judgeship, she held several legal positions, including Judge pro tem and Juvenile Court Referee for the Multnomah County Circuit Court, and worked as an attorney for the Metropolitan Public Defender in Portland and Montana Legal Services. She earned a B.A. from Stanford University in 1976 and a J.D. from the University of Oregon School of Law in 1979.
