Hon. Matthew E. Chandler

Matthew E. Chandler is a former judge of the Ninth Judicial District Court in New Mexico, appointed by Governor Susana Martinez in 2015 and elected in 2016, serving until his retirement in 2021. He began his legal career after earning a J.D. from the University of Tulsa College of Law in 2001, and worked briefly in private practice in Albuquerque before serving as assistant district attorney in Clovis, where he achieved the highest conviction rate in his first two years. He then served as district attorney for the Ninth Judicial District from 2004 to 2014, earning the New Mexico Bar Association’s Law Enforcement Prosecutor of the Year award in 2006. In 2010 he ran for state attorney general, and in 2016 he was elected judge of the Ninth Judicial District Court. His career has been marked by a commitment to public service and a record of prosecutorial success.
