<p><b>Charlene Elder</b> is a judge of the <a href="https://ballotpedia.org/3rd_Circuit_Court,_Michigan">Michigan 3rd Circuit Court</a>. She assumed office in 2006. Her current term ends on January 1, 2027.</p><p>Elder ran for re-election for judge of the <a href="https://ballotpedia.org/3rd_Circuit_Court,_Michigan">Michigan 3rd Circuit Court</a>. She won in the general election on <a href="https://ballotpedia.org/Municipal_elections_in_Wayne_County,_Michigan_(2020)">November 3, 2020</a>. </p>
<p>Elder was appointed to the court by former Governor <a href="/Jennifer_Granholm" title="Jennifer Granholm">Jennifer Granholm</a> in December 2005 and assumed office in January 2006.<sup id="cite_ref-access_1-0" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-access-1">[1]</a></sup> Elder was then elected to the court in 2006 and re-elected in 2008, for a full six-year term ending on <a href="/C2015#January" class="mw-redirect" title="C2015">January 1, 2015</a>.<sup id="cite_ref-2" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-2">[2]</a></sup> On November 4, 2014, Elder was re-elected unopposed for another six-year term.<sup id="cite_ref-candidate_3-0" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-candidate-3">[3]</a></sup>&nbsp;
</p><p>Elder is the first Arab-American female judge on the <a href="/3rd_Circuit_Court,_Michigan" title="3rd Circuit Court, Michigan">3rd Circuit Court</a>. <p>Elder received her B.A. in English and psychology from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 1991 and her <a href="/J.D." class="mw-redirect" title="J.D.">J.D.</a> degree from the Detroit College of Law in 1995.<sup id="cite_ref-access_1-1" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-access-1">[1]</a></sup>
</p>

<p>Early in her career, Elder worked as a sole practitioner, specializing in consumer protection, commercial transactions, and general litigation. She was appointed a magistrate of the <a href="/Michigan_Nineteenth_Judicial_District_Court" title="Michigan Nineteenth Judicial District Court">19th Judicial District Court</a> in 2003. She was then appointed to the <a href="/3rd_Circuit_Court,_Michigan" title="3rd Circuit Court, Michigan">3rd Circuit Court</a> in 2005.<sup id="cite_ref-access_1-2" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-access-1">[1]</a></sup>
