Joseph E. Capella is a justice of the 12th Judicial District Supreme Court in New York, a position he has held since being elected on November 7, 2017. Prior to his current role, Capella served as a judge on the New York City Civil Court and the New York City Criminal Court in Bronx County, and he was a judge on the New York City Housing Court from 2004 to 2010. His legal career also includes work as an associate counsel for the Office of Court Administration, a staff attorney for the Legal Aid Society, and a court attorney for both the New York City Housing Court and the Bronx Supreme Court. Capella earned a Bachelor’s degree from Hofstra University and a Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School.
