Hon. James M. Peterson

James M. Peterson is a Wisconsin attorney who has served the Dunn County community in both prosecutorial and judicial capacities. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Minnesota in 1982 and his Juris Doctor from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1985. In 1989, Governor Tommy Thompson appointed him as the District Attorney of Dunn County, a position he held until his election to the bench in 2014. Prior to his appointment, Peterson worked as an assistant district attorney and also practiced privately. He was elected as a judge of the Dunn County Circuit Court in the 2014 spring primary and general election, receiving 45.3% and 51.5% of the vote respectively, and his term is set to expire in 2020. Mr. Peterson’s legal career has been rooted in criminal law and public service within Wisconsin.
