Hon. Karen R. Duncan

Karen R. Duncan is a Third Judicial District judge for Steele County, Minnesota, appointed in January 2013 by Governor Mark Dayton and re-elected in 2014 for a term expiring in 2020. She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota and a J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School. Prior to her judgeship, Duncan served as chief public defender for Minnesota's Third Judicial District, as an assistant public defender, and as a sole practitioner in the Duncan Law Office in Owatonna. She also worked as an assistant county attorney for Rice County and Olmsted County in Minnesota, and for Benton County in Iowa. Her practice areas include public defense, criminal law, and county attorney duties.
