Louisa Abbot is a former judge of the Eastern Judicial Circuit of Georgia, having served from her appointment in 2000 until her retirement in 2023. She earned her undergraduate degree from Augusta College and her Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia. Admitted to the Georgia Bar in 1982, Abbot began her legal career as a law clerk for Judge Avant Edenfield of the United States District Court, later worked in private practice, and subsequently clerked for Chief Judge Perry Brannen Jr. of the Georgia Superior Court. Throughout her career, she has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Woman of Achievement award from the Oglethorpe Business & Professional Women's Club (2004), the Justice Robert Benham Award for Community Service (2004), and the Joseph T. Tuggle, Jr. Professionalism Award from the Family Law Section of the Bar (2002). She has also served in leadership roles such as past-president of the Savannah Bar Association and the Georgia Bar Foundation, member of the Georgia Commission on Dispute Resolution, and chairperson of the Uniform Rules Committee of the Council of Superior Court Judges.
