About
John H. Guthmann has served as a judge for Position 26 of the Minnesota Second Judicial District since his appointment by Governor Tim Pawlenty on January 31, 2008. A graduate of Cornell College (B.A. in history and political science, 1976) and William Mitchell College of Law (J.D., 1980), Guthmann began his legal career as a law clerk for Hennepin County District Court Judge Harold Kalina and later for Minnesota Supreme Court Chief Justice Robert Sheran. He joined the law firm Hansen, Dordell, Bradt, Odlaug & Bradt, P.L.L.P. in 1981, became a partner in 1990, and served as managing partner from 1998 until his judicial appointment. He has been re-elected to his position in 2010, 2016, and 2022, with his current term ending January 1, 2029.
