Hon. W. Fletcher Sams

W. Fletcher Sams, born March 29, 1954, is a judge on the Griffin Superior Court in Georgia. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Sonny Perdue in August 2010 and has served in that capacity since. Prior to his judicial appointment, Sams built a diverse legal career that included private practice, serving as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia, a Special Master for the Griffin Judicial Circuit, City Attorney for the Town of Brooks, and a professor at Mercer University. He also held prosecutorial roles as Assistant District Attorney for the Waycross Judicial Circuit and later as District Attorney for the Griffin Judicial Circuit. In 1997, he joined the Fayette County State Court, where he served until his appointment to the Superior Court. Sams ran unopposed in the 2012 election and was re-elected with 99.7% of the vote. His educational background includes a B.A. in Biology from Rhodes College (1976) and a J.D. from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University (1979).
