About
Jo-Ann M. Chung has served as a judge on the Alaska Third District District Court since her appointment by Governor Sean Parnell on May 26, 2011. She has been retained by voters in the 2014, 2018, and 2022 retention elections, most recently securing 57.8% of the vote in 2022. Prior to her judgeship, Chung held a variety of prosecutorial and defense roles in Alaska, including Deputy Municipal Prosecutor, Domestic Violence Unit Supervisor, Assistant Municipal Prosecutor, Assistant Attorney General, and Assistant Public Defender. She earned a B.A. in Psychology from Fairfield University in 1989 and a J.D. from Northeastern School of Law in 1994, and has built a career focused on public service and the administration of justice within the state of Alaska.
