Hon. David S. Swartz

David S. Swartz is the chief judge of the 22nd Circuit Court in Washtenaw County, Michigan. He was appointed to the court by former Governor John Engler on April 3, 1997, and has served continuously since then, having been elected in 1998 and re-elected in 2002, 2008, and 2014. Prior to his judicial service, Swartz began his legal career as an assistant prosecutor in Washtenaw County from 1973 to 1982. He then practiced privately with several firms, including Dykema, Gossett, Spencer, Goodnow & Trigg; Laird, Chin, Schwartz & Swartz; and Conlin, McKenney & Philbrick, P.C. In January 1995, he was appointed to the 14A Judicial District Court, a position he held until his appointment to the 22nd Circuit Court in 1997. Swartz holds a B.S. from Central Michigan University (1969) and a J.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law (1972).
