About
Josie Garton is a judge of the Alaska Third District Superior Court, having assumed office in 2018 and serving a term that ends in 2029. She was appointed by Governor Bill Walker in July 2018 to replace Mark Rindner and was successfully retained in the 2022 retention election with 57.2% of the vote. Prior to her judicial appointment, Garton served as an Assistant Public Defender from 2007 to 2018, and earlier worked in private practice and for Alaska Legal Services between 2002 and 2007. She also clerked for Alaska Supreme Court Justice Warren Matthews. Garton earned a bachelor’s degree from Reed College in 1995 and a J.D. from Lewis & Clark School of Law in 2000.
