Hon. Cheryl H. Johnston

Cheryl H. Johnston is a judge of the Thirteenth Judicial District Court in New Mexico, having been elected in November 2014 and taking office on January 1, 2015. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Rice University in 1977 and a Juris Doctor from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1981. Prior to her judicial appointment, Johnston spent 30 years as a trial lawyer and served as a deputy district attorney for both the Thirteenth and Second Judicial Districts. Her election to the bench was marked by a narrow victory over Chris G. Perez, securing 51.9 percent of the vote in the 2014 general election.
