In the <a href="/Democratic" class="mw-redirect" title="Democratic">Democratic</a> primary she ran against three other opponents, Holly M. Harvey, <a href="/Alphonso_%22Al%22_Manns" title="Alphonso &quot;Al&quot; Manns">Alphonso "Al" Manns</a> and Fred Turner. She won the primary with 37.5% of the vote. In the general election Haughton ran against <a href="/Republican" class="mw-redirect" title="Republican">Republican</a> opponent Joby D. Jerrells.
