Jill Johnson-Vigil

Attorney Jill V. Johnson Vigil is a native transplant to Las Cruces, New Mexico. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Jill has live in Southern New Mexico since 1979. She is a proud alumni of Las Cruces High School (91), New Mexico State University (95) and Capital Law School of Columbus, Ohio (98). Jill was admitted to the Ohio State Bar in 1998 and the New Mexico State Bar in 2000. Jills practice of law began in the workers compensation administrative law sector as a law clerk at the Ohio Industrial Commission. In 2002, Jill began practicing family law by becoming the first Civil Legal Assistance Attorney at La Casa, Inc, the local domestic violence shelter in Dona Ana County, New Mexico. While at La Casa, Jill represented victims of domestic abuse, free of charge to the client, in restraining order and divorce/custody proceedings. Once asked by a grant funder what she considered to be the most important resource a victim of domestic violence can have, Jill responded a lawyer. Today, the civil legal assistance program is a viable resource for victims of domestic violence in Dona Ana County. As a survivor of domestic abuse, La Casa, Inc. and their mission to stop family violence holds a special place for Jill as evidenced in her commitment to provide pro bono services for victims of domestic violence. Jill transitioned from La Casa, Inc. to the 3 rd Judicial District Attorneys Office to prosecute domestic violence criminal offenses under the direction of the former 3 rd Judicial District Attorney, Governor Susana Martinez.
