Prior to practicing, Matthew was a judicial extern for Judge Samuel Der-Yeghiayan of the United States District Court for the North District of Illinois, where he worked on various cases involving both state and federal law, including employment discrimination and retaliation claims and cases involving municipal entities. In August of 2004, Matthew began his legal career with Mulherin, Rehfeldt & Varchetto, P. C. in Wheaton, Illinois. In his ten years with Mulherin, Rehfeldt & Varchetto, P. C., Matthew practiced in both state and federal court, in the areas of civil litigation, subrogation, insurance defense, including trucking liability, automobile accidents, construction accidents, products liability, medical malpractice defense, long term care facility and nursing home defense, premises liability, and the defense of local governmental and municipal entities, including the defense of § 1983 claims, constitutional rights claims, equal protection claims, due process claims, false arrest, search and seizure, retaliation claims, and malicious prosecution.
