About
David L. Finger has been named one of Delaware’s top lawyers six times in polls of lawyers published in Delaware Today magazine (most recently in 2016), and in 2012 was named by Lawdragon as one of America’s Leading Lawyers. He is a third-generation Delaware lawyer, a graduate of Wilmington Friends School, the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Virginia School of Law. Mr. Finger has represented individuals and entities in stockholder disputes, corporate election disputes, commercial disputes, trade secret, trademark and patent infringement litigation, property disputes and commercial bankruptcy matters. Mr. Finger has represented news media outlets, reporters and other individuals in defamation, freedom of information and related First Amendment and media law disputes. Mr. Finger is a member of the Bars of the Supreme Court of the State of Delaware, the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Third, Second and Federal Circuits, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware. He argued before the United States Supreme Court in the case of Adams v. Governor of the State of Delaware.Mr. Finger is the co-author of the Delaware Trial Handbook, originally published by Lawyers Cooperative Publishing in 1994, which is now updated and accessible for free elsewhere on this website. He has also written on a variety of legal issues pertaining to First Amendment rights, Internet law and legal ethics. He has lectured on First Amendment law and on Delaware legal practice. Mr. Finger is a member of the Delaware State Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He is also a co-chair of the Tribe of Angels, matching entrepreneurs and investors. Mr. Finger’s civic activities include service as counsel to the Police Athletic League of Wilmington and Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts. He also serves as a member of the advisory board of the Finger-Gordon Trust, overseeing grants for the promotion of Jewish education.
