He is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Trial Lawyers Association, the Idaho Trial Lawyers Association, and the American Inns of Court, #130. Following Law School, John clerked for the Honorable Mikel H. Williams, U. S. Magistrate, and District of Idaho. He then worked for the Boise based firm of Elam, Burke, & Boyd before founding Comstock & Bush with David Comstock in 1992. John is a member of the Idaho State Bar and is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Claims, United States District Court, District of Idaho, the United States Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit and the Idaho Supreme Court. John has published decisions from cases pursued on appeal in the Idaho Supreme Court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. In 2016, John was named Idaho Trial Lawyer of the Year by the Idaho Trial Lawyers Association. He is an Eagle member of the ITLA and has also been recognized as an ITLA Champion of Civil Justice. John is rated AV Preeminent by Martindale Hubble by both his peers and the Judiciary. He has been selected for recognition by Super Lawyers consistently since 2007. John and his wife, Katie, have two children, both in college, each of whom share their parents great love for the Idaho outdoors. John is an avid fisherman and enjoys playing golf and traveling off the beaten path whenever he has a chance. Johns practice focuses on significant personal injury and wrongful death claims as well as first party insurance breach of contract claims including bad faith.
