About
CaraLyn started her Law career serving the New Mexico community working at the State Health And Human Services Department. CaraLyn continued working at Law Firms around the state where her loyalty, passion, drive and work ethic were unmatched. CaraLyn completed her service to the Las Cruces community serving as a partner at KempSmith Law Firm, CaraLyn was a True Lawyer in every sense of the word. CaraLyn enjoyed many outdoor activities like hiking, biking, running, camping. She also loved boating, water skiing, tubbing, exploring new canyons and kayaking. Her favorite place was Lake Powell where she made countless memories with family and friends. She was a world traveler and never turned down an opportunity for adventure, especially with her family and dear friend Peggy. She loved to take photos and capture every moment along the way, always making memories to share. CaraLyn’s greatest joy was being a mom and grandmother. Jarod & Jennifer along with their two children Megan and Grant were the light of her life. She cherished the time spent with them, always expressing pride in their many achievements. Jarod just received his Master’s degree. Jennifer’s love of family and always helping and volunteering in their schools. Watching Megan with cheerleading and track and Grant with basketball, soccer and track. She truly enjoyed family time. CaraLyn was an amazing aunt to 22 nieces and nephews! She made sure each one felt special and so loved, always engaging in what was important to them. Her example of education and adventure will have an impact on their lives forever. CaraLyn was a kind, loving, generous, sincere, thoughtful, intelligent woman, always seeing the good in everyone. She filled our hearts with joy and made our family complete. CaraLyn will be dearly missed and forever remembered by her loving family and friends. CaraLyn is survived by her son Jarod (Jennifer)Duncan, grandchildren Megan, and Grant Duncan, mother Janice Barnes, sister Julie (Paul) Sherman, brother Dave (Noreen) Barnes, brother Mike (Lori) Barnes, and 22 nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father Grant P. Barnes CaraLyn’s family would like to extend their thanks to the many friends, family members, Doctors and hospital staff for their kind support over the years. A celebration of life service will be held on June 8th, 2024 at 10:00 am, at the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico (CFSNM), in Las Cruces NM. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the CFSNM in honor of CaraLyn. We could not have been more blessed to have CaraLyn in our lives, and she will be missed by us all.
