About
John B. Jack Long practices in the area of general civil litigation with an emphasis on class action litigation, bankruptcy, and domestic relations disputes. Named a Georgia Super Lawyer since 2010, Jack Long has been a trial lawyer since 1971. He has received an AV peer review rating in Martindale Hubbell, the highest possible ranking given in both legal ability and ethical standards. Jack Long has volunteered his time to assist the Public Defenders Office in handling Habeas cases and was successful in obtaining the release of scores of individuals who were jailed as the result of illegal arrest warrants being issued. He was instrumental in having over 170,000 misdemeanor warrants recalled that were issued at the request of private probation companies in Georgia. Mr. Long has previously been appointed by the Chief Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court to serve on the Augusta Judicial Circuit Public Defender Selection Panel. Mr. Long has testified before the Georgia Supreme Court on Indigent Defense and is a strong advocate for ensuring that indigent defendants receive high-quality representation in the Criminal Justice System. Jack Long has also previously served as the Augusta Bar Associations representative on the Board of Georgia Legal Services, a position he held for eight years. Mr. Long has also served on the Georgia State Bars Access to Justice Committee. Skilled as both a trial and appellate attorney, Jack Long has represented clients at the trial level in courtrooms across Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. He has also argued numerous appeals in the state appellate courts of Georgia, as well as the federal appellate courts for the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fourth, Fifth, and Eleventh Circuits. Mr. Long earned his Bachelor of Arts from Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in 1968 and achieved his Juris Doctorate from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1971. Jack Long was commissioned in 1968 in the United States Army and served as a Field Artillery Captain. He and his wife, Benita, are the parents of two children.
