Sonjas work in the law is informed by her background in psychology and social work. Accordingly, she brings a balance of legal knowledge and pragmatism to her practice that is particularly well suited to Family Law and Estate Planning. Sonja has practiced exclusively in the area of Family Law since graduating from law school. Sonja is a qualified neutral under Rule 114, and she enjoys assisting parties who are seeking alternatives to litigation through mediation, parenting time expediting, or parenting consulting. Areas of Practice Divorce, Custody, Child Support, Paternity, Prenuptial and Post-nuptial Agreements, Post-Decree Issues, Third Party Custody, Wills and Estate Planning, Health Care Directives, Parenting Time Expediting, Parenting Consulting, Mediation, Early Neutral Evaluations (ENEs), Arbitration, Consensual Special Master, and Rule 53 Special Master. Professional and Community Activities Sonja has continued her commitment to serving the community. She served on the the Tubman Board of Directors from 2011 through 2017 and focuses her board activities on Tubmans Public Policy efforts. She volunteers at the Volunteer Lawyers Network Family Law Walk-In Clinic, as a pro bono attorney for Tubman, and as pro bono mediator for Ramsey and Hennepin Counties. She previously sat on the Board of Directors of Elder Care Rights Alliance from 2007 through 2011 and was a member of the St. Paul Mayors Advisory Council on Aging from 2010 through 2011. She frequently volunteers with state-wide and local political races. Sonja is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association, Association of Family and Conciliation Court (AFCC), the Ramsey County Bar Association, and the Family Law League. She has taught a variety of CLEs including for AFCC, Family Law League Family Law Institute, has authored a chapter of the Child Custody Deskbook, and has written articles for the Family Law Forum and Volunteer Lawyers Network. Personal Sonja lives in St. Paul with her family, and cats. She enjoys cooking, yoga and photography. Education Sonja graduated, cum laude, from the University of St. Thomas School of Law. Before law school Sonja earned a B. A. degree, cum laude, in Psychology and Social Work from the University of St. Thomas.
