Peter Shapiro

Biography Personal Life Peter and his wife, Sally, have been married for forty years and are the proud parents of three wonderful children. They moved from Key West to Atlantis in 2015. Prior to Key West they resided in the Greater Hartford area of Connecticut. Early Life Peter served in the U. S. Army as a military news correspondent in the Republic of South Vietnam. His community volunteer efforts have focused on civil rights, arts organizations, and fundraising initiatives for local soup kitchens and the Connecticut AIDS Resource Coalition. He and Sally developed three affordable housing projects for artists in central and eastern Connecticut. Education Peter is a graduate of Fordham University and Emory Law School. Professional Career Peter served as Counsel/Senior Vice President of Public & Governmental Affairs for The Connecticut Bank and Trust Company. Community Involvement Peter and Sally have been active in the successful grassroots effort to prevent the excessive density proposed by the developments of Heathwood Reserve. As a Councilor, Peter will encourage our residents, City Council and neighboring cities to remain proactive in monitoring similar projects that could adversely affect Atlantis in the future. He is a strong supporter of our City Manager form of government and is very grateful for the professionalism and excellence that our dedicated workers, administrative staff, and Police Department consistently deliver to the residents of our beautiful community. As one of five members of the City Council, Peter will continue to encourage broad civic involvement by all our residents. He is proud to join in the ongoing effort to maintain the small-town camaraderie, beauty, and high standards that have been the hallmark of Atlantis since it was founded by the Kintz and Hunt families in 1959.
