Mr. Smith was born to Sammie Lee Smith, Sr. and Patricia Howard of Jacksonville, Florida. He is the first son of six children born to this union. Receiving his early high school education from Stanton College Preparatory, he furthered his education at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida where he majored in Information Studies and minored in General Business. While at Florida State, he held leadership positions within many organizations such as Senate President and Pro-Tempore of FSU Student Government Association, pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, receiving the highest undergraduate achievement award. He also assisted on several city election campaigns prior to returning to his hometown Jacksonville. Mr. Smith then completed his Juris Doctorate at Florida Coastal School of Law and graduated with Pro Bono Honors. He was admitted into the Florida Bar on August 20, 2010, and immediately started his eponymous personal injury law firm, fighting for the injured. In the legal profession, Mr. Smith is a member of the prestigious Million Dollar Advocates Forum, The Top Trial Lawyers in America, The National Trial Lawyers Top 100 lawyers, and has been recognized by the National Bar Association as one of the Top 40 under 40 Nations Best Advocates in America 2019-2019. Mr. Smith has been recognized by the Florida Supreme Court for exceptional pro bono service and by The Florida Bar for Meritorious Public Service. In the Jacksonville community, he is the past president of the D. W. Perkins Bar Association, a civil rights organization which consists of Jacksonvilles black lawyers and judges. He currently or has held memberships in the following legal organizations: the American Bar Association, the Jacksonville Bar Association, the Jacksonville Justice Association, the Florida Justice Association, the National Bar Association, and The Florida Bar, appointed to the Law Related Education Committee, past chair of the Florida Bar Fourth Circuit Grievance Committee (4D) which provides oversight for lawyer misconduct, and the Florida Family Law American Inn of Courts. Mr. Smith also received a congressional scholarship for the Congressional Black Caucus Bootcamp and the Jacksonville Chamber Regional Political Leadership Institute. Mr. Smith is a minister of the gospel and serves as the pastor of Hephzibah Evangelistic Pentecostal Church located on the Northside of Jacksonville.
