She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1983 and attended law school at the University of Houston. She was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1991. She is a member of the Cameron County Bar Association, Hidalgo County Bar Association, Federal Bar Association, American Bar Association, Texas Association of Defense Counsel and the Defense Research Institute.
