About
A leader in her field, Myra Barsoum Stockett has a wide range of experience in workers compensation, labor and employment law, and insurance coverage matters. Myra is a dedicated advocate for her clients, and works to find the right resolution for each matter. She maintains a strong motion practice and has resolved workers compensation and legal malpractice claims by summary judgment. Myra handles administrative hearings before the Industrial Commission of Ohio and the adjudicating bodies of the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation. She has successfully defended against death claims, Violation of Specific Safety Requirement (VSSR) applications, and prevailed on continuing jurisdiction matters that have led to previously allowed conditions and claims being reversed on behalf of employers. She also has broad experience with workers compensation appeals in the Court of Common Pleas in addition to vast appellate experience, including the handling of mandamus proceedings. Myra also represents clients in employment-related matters, including defending employers from claims for wrongful termination, violations of Title VII and R. C. 4112, retaliation, and other statutory claims under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Myra handles all aspects of insurance coverage issues from coverage opinions to litigation, and provides guidance in drafting policy language. She has filed and defended declaratory judgment actions and third party complaints. She counsels, advises, and defends clients in coverage and bad faith claims in state and federal courts across Ohio, as well as in appellate courts. Prior to joining Perez Morris, Myra was a shareholder at Reminger Co., LPA where she served as a member of the firms management team, and was Co-Chair of the insurance coverage/bad faith practice group. Myra previously served as General Counsel for a privately owned physician recruiting company. Myra frequently presents at conferences and education seminars for both legal and business professionals in the areas of workers compensation, employment law, insurance coverage, tort reform, and general liability. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of both Case Western Reserve University Law School Alumni Association and St. Peter and St. George Coptic Orthodox Church.
