Overstreet J. Carlisle

Jim is an Augusta, Georgia native who received his Bachelors Degree in Accounting from the University of Georgia, and his Juris Doctor from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University. He is a member of various arts and charitable organizations in the Augusta area and has served on the Board of Directors for the Augusta Training Shop for the Handicapped and the Augusta-Richmond County Library, and is a Director of the Legal Counsel Division of the Georgia Banks Association. Jim represents individuals, businesses, and lenders in the area of secured transactions for both real estate and non-real estate matters. In the bankruptcy courts, Jim represents debtors, creditors, and trustees in both consumer and commercial bankruptcy proceedings, including litigation. Outside of the bankruptcy courts, he assists private clients and lending institutions in complex corporate and financial transactions with a special interest in motor vehicle franchises. In addition to a continuing representation of small and medium-sized businesses and lenders in both their day-to-day and litigation matters, Jim also advises business clients and lenders with regards to the acquisition, financing, and development of their operations. He also servesas general counsel to the Tax Commissioner of Richmond County, Georgia. Active in the Bankruptcy Courts for the Southern District of Georgia, Jim has served as a Chapter 7 panel trustee, standing Chapter 12 Trustee, Chapter 11, and Subchapter V Trustee for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Georgia. Since 2012, Jim has served as Chair at Bankruptcy Lawyers Advisory Committee for the Southern District of Georgia. Georgia Trend Magazine named Jim as one of Georgias 2021 Legal Elite in the area of Creditors Rights and Bankruptcy, the only attorney named in this field outside the Atlanta area.
