For example, she drafts employee handbooks, conducts anti-harassment training, advises employers on termination issues, assists with wage and hour issues including Department of Labor investigations, and conducts internal investigations of allegations of discrimination or harassment. Education Law: Joan exclusively represents school districts. She is one of the few attorneys in Utah with expertise in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, and has assisted school districts throughout the state with IDEA compliance issues as well as mediations and due process hearings. Joan is also well-versed in the employment issues specific to school districts, student discipline, student free expression law, and Title IX. Litigation: Joan is a litigator with a proven record of success. She has tried several cases in state and federal courts, as well as before administrative tribunals. She has also tried employment cases involving the Fair Labor Standard Act, non-competition/non-solicitation agreements, and Title VII. She has tried several breach of contract actions and was also a key team member on a widely reported case involving the False Claims Act. Non-Profit Law: Joan assists nonprofit clients with issues involving charitable fund-raising, cause marketing and other regulatory issues. Education: J.
